In other business at its recent meeting, selectmen voted to support sending a statement of interest to the Massachusetts School Building Authority for the Greenmont Avenue School. The Proposition 2½ law limits tax increases to 2.5% of the town’s tax levy but allows increases in the levy limit based on new development and other growth in the tax base. In response to a question from Selectman Joe DiRocco, Garofalo explained that the amount above 2.5% comes from new growth in the town. The budget will result in a 2.79% increase in the property taxes that homeowners and businesses pay. The enterprise funds are a separate reporting mechanism for water, sewer and other governmental activities.
